Transcript of Oral Question in the House of Commons: MP John Smith: "Mr. Speaker, can the Prime Minister outline what steps the Government is taking to support small businesses struggling with the rising cost of living?" Prime Minister: "The Government recognizes the significant challenges facing small businesses due to the rising cost of living. We have introduced a range of measures to provide support, including the Energy Bills Relief Scheme, which will cap energy prices for businesses, as well as the recently announced £13 billion support package to help with business rates. Additionally, we are working closely with industry leaders to identify further ways to assist small businesses during this difficult time." MP John Smith: "I thank the Prime Minister for that response, but many small businesses in my constituency are still facing significant financial pressures. Can the Prime Minister provide more details on how the Government plans to ensure that these vital businesses are able to survive the current economic climate?" Prime Minister: "The Government is committed to doing everything in its power to support small businesses. In addition to the measures I outlined, we are also exploring the possibility of further targeted support, such as tax relief and access to low-interest loans. We understand the urgency of the situation and will continue to work closely with small business owners to understand their specific needs and tailor our response accordingly." MP Sarah Jones: "Mr. Speaker, while the support announced so far is welcome, many small businesses are still struggling to keep their doors open. Can the Prime Minister assure the House that the Government will act swiftly to provide additional assistance if the current measures prove insufficient?" Prime Minister: "The Government is closely monitoring the situation and will not hesitate to introduce further support if it becomes necessary. We are committed to ensuring that small businesses, the backbone of our economy, are able to weather this challenging period. I can assure the House that we will continue to engage with small business owners and explore every avenue to provide the assistance they need."
