Summary

In a statement delivered in the House of Commons, the minister announced the results of the Select Committee Chair elections. The minister noted that the results for the Chairs who were unopposed were announced on Monday, while the elections for the contested posts were held by secret ballot today, with 577 Members voting. The minister then proceeded to list the successful candidates for the various Select Committees, including the Business and Trade Committee, Defence Committee, Education Committee, Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, Environmental Audit Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, Home Affairs Committee, Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee, International Development Committee, Justice Committee, Procedure Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, Committee on Standards, Transport Committee, Women and Equalities Committee, and Work and Pensions Committee. The minister congratulated the colleagues who have been elected and thanked all candidates who have taken part. The minister also mentioned that the result of the election for the Chair of the Scottish Affairs Committee will be announced tomorrow, as a recount is currently underway. The minister emphasized that the Members elected will formally take up their positions when their Committee has been nominated by the House.
