Mill Field Housing Development Proposals in Market Deeping
Petition
Summary
In the House of Commons, a minister has risen to present a petition on behalf of his constituents in Market Deeping. The petition, signed by nearly 2,000 people, which is almost a third of the town's population of 6,300, calls on the House of Commons to protect the much-loved Mill Field in Market Deeping.
The minister explained that Mill Field is an 11-hectare green field, bordered by mature hedgerows and trees, and has been used by the community for various purposes since the 19th century. Despite opposition from the local community and the Market Deeping town council, the site has been earmarked for development by the South Kesteven District Council.
The minister emphasized that this development is being imposed on a community that does not want it and threatens the unspoiled grassland that has been used by families for generations. The petition, which is the result of the tireless work of Pamela Steel and the Friends of Mill Field, urges the House of Commons to call on the South Kesteven District Council to reconsider its plan to develop Mill Field and instead protect it as a designated green space for the benefit of the local community and future generations.
