Deputy Speakers

In the House of Commons, the minister has announced the arrangements for the election of the Deputy Speakers. The ballot will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd, between 10 am and 1:30 pm in Committee Room 8. Nominations must be submitted to the Table Office between 10 am and 5 pm on Monday, July 22nd. The nomination forms and an updated briefing note with information about the election are available in the Vote Office. The minister has also moved a motion to appoint temporary Deputy Speakers for the period up to the first sitting day following the election of the Deputy Speakers under Standing Order No. 2A. According to the motion, Sir Edward Leigh will be the Chairman of Ways and Means, Dame Siobhain McDonagh will be the First Deputy Chairman of Ways and Means, and Sir Christopher Chope will be the Second Deputy Chairman of Ways and Means. This announcement outlines the procedural details for the upcoming election of the Deputy Speakers, ensuring a transparent and orderly process. The temporary appointments of the Deputy Speakers will provide continuity in the House's operations until the new Deputy Speakers are elected.
