Grassroots Athletics Clubs

Connor Naismith, the Member of Parliament for Crewe and Nantwich, asked the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Stephanie Peacock, what steps the government is taking to support grassroots athletics clubs to maintain their facilities. In her response, Stephanie Peacock acknowledged the importance of grassroots sports clubs, stating that the government is committed to continuing to support high-quality, inclusive facilities to get people more active. She recognized the significance of Crewe and Nantwich athletic club, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary and is home to the only competitive-standard athletics track in south Cheshire. However, Peacock noted that the track is in desperate need of improvements to allow the club to continue to flourish and support the young people who use its facilities. Naismith followed up by requesting that the Minister meet with him to discuss what support might be available to deliver the crucial improvements needed for the Crewe and Nantwich athletic club's track. In response, Peacock expressed her willingness to meet with Naismith and stated that she will ask her Department to link the club up with England Athletics and other bodies to further discuss the support available. There were no other interventions by other Members of Parliament during this exchange.
