Summary

The debate began with the right hon. Member for Rayleigh and Wickford (Mr Francois) opening with a tribute to the late Sir David Amess, whose name the debate was held in honour of. The debate also touched on the role of this Parliament in addressing national challenges such as the cost-of-living crisis, energy security, and the transition to a green economy. Throughout, there was a common thread of Members pledging to be strong advocates and champions for their local areas. The debate demonstrated the diversity of the new intake of MPs, with personal stories and local perspectives enriching the discussion. It provided an opportunity for new voices to be heard and for the House to reflect on the important role of constituency MPs in serving their communities.
